On the eve of the Met Gala 2025, the musician and actor revealed her Thom Browne look, created in collaboration with Oscar-Winning Costume Designer Paul Tazewell, and why she was never going to show up in a regular suit.

Janelle Monáe flaunted a deconstructed suit look at the Met Gala on Monday, complete with an eye-catching monocle. The 10-time Grammy nominated singer-songwriter graced the gala's midnight-blue floral carpet with a showstopping, punchy design from Thom Browne (the label ended up dressing several celebrities for fashion's biggest night).

But no one thought to fuse a monocle with a watch the way Monáe and Browne did. It’s a look that ticks all the boxes of this year’s Met Gala dress code, Tailored for You, which complements the spring 2025 Costume Institute exhibition “ Superfine: Tailoring Black Style .
