Washington drivers crash in work zones more than 1,000 times a year, compelling the Legislature to unanimously approve speed cameras along state highways.

Washington state is launching speed cameras in construction zones to improve safety and reduce work zone accidents.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is piloting speed enforcement cameras, beginning in construction zones. The Floyd Hill construction zone on Interstate 70 has been identified as a candidate for the first zone, according to a Jan. 15 transportation commission meeting.

Starting in late February, a work zone speed camera mounted on a trailer will rotate through active work zones across Washington.

Civil citation tickets will be issued to drivers of vehicles that exceed the posted school speed by 10 mph; no points are assessed

Altumint conducted a speed study in October to determine areas of Taneytown where speeding occurs the most. Cameras were placed on Trevanion Road near Taneytown Elementary School and Northwest Middle School, and another pair were set up at the intersection of Baumgardner Avenue and East Baltimore Street.
