This most unpredictable of Wimbledons has delivered yet another surprise. Reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys was a lopsided loser in the third round, eliminated 6-3, 6-3 by 104th-ranked Laura Siegemund of Germany on Friday.
Laura Siegemund is in the middle of a career renaissance at Wimbledon 2025. She's through to the quarterfinals, her second in singles at a Major and her first at the venue, without dropping a set. She has been on a giant-killing spree,
“I'm pretty consistent with my weirdness that I have, let's say (laughing). It's nothing. I do it for me and not against other ones, but it does lead to confrontation sometimes. Then I'm just, like, Well, that's how I am.”
Solana Sierra was relatively unknown before rocking up at Wimbledon for her first qualifying match two weeks ago. The Argentine, 21, has never been ranked higher than 100th in the world, and prior to this week she had never been beyond the first round of a Grand Slam.
