The legal punishments for each of the 11 Syracuse high school students who surrendered for their alleged involvement in the extreme hazing of five younger lacrosse players could vary, legal experts say.

Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick gave anyone involved a 48-hour window to turn themselves in to avoid a criminal record.

The teenagers in Syracuse, N.Y., turned themselves in after the district attorney gave them 48 hours to surrender. He called the episode “hazing on steroids.”
