Gemini, Google’s generative AI assistant and rival to ChatGPT, has become integral to high-end Android phones over the past year, gradually superseding the more basic Google Assistant. Now Google has outlined plans to sunset its original smart assistant entirely, starting with Android phones.

Google has finally revealed its plans for the end of Google Assistant: Android phones will have to move to Gemini before the end of the year.

Google's Gemini assistant will officially replace the company's classic Google Assistant on most phones later this year. Google announced the change in a blog post Friday, and revealed that the change will also encompass devices like tablets, headphones and watches that use the Google Assistant.
