Rep. Elise Stefanik, a member of House Republican leadership and onetime nominee for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, is considering a run for New York governor, according to a person close to her.

The North Country congresswoman said Tuesday night that she was “honored” to have her name floated as a potential challenger to Gov. Kathy Hochul in 2026.

Republican US Representative Elise Stefanik is weighing a run for New York governor in 2026, a person familiar with the matter said. Stefanik, who represents a mostly rural region upstate, was originally tapped by President Donald Trump to become ambassador to the United Nations in November.
