California’s botched February bar exam will cost the State Bar of California almost $6 million more than expected in July, with millions in added expenses in the years to come, officials told state lawmakers on Wednesday.

Leah T. Wilson, executive director of the State Bar, told state lawmakers at a Senate Judiciary hearing Tuesday that the agency expects to pay around $5.6 million to offer free exams to test takers, book in-person testing sites and return the exam to its traditional system of multiple-choice questions for its July test.
