The Trump administration has admitted in court that it did not have a warrant when Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Columbia graduate student Mahmoud Khalil.

The Department of Homeland Security defended the warrantless arrest by saying it feared Mahmoud Khalil, a permanent resident, would flee.

The U.S. government maintained in new court filings that the Palestinian activist, 30, could be arrested because he was a “flight risk.”
