Mr Stokes yesterday said NSW would retain pencil-and-paper NAPLAN tests for Year 3 — boycotting the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority’s plan for national online tests.

With NAPLAN numeracy tests just around the corner for Australian school students, parents and teachers are also rushing to use third-party practice tests for last-minute prep.

Final NAPLAN results, released on Wednesday, showed Year 5, 7 and 9 outcomes had largely stagnated since national testing started in 2008, while Year 3 students had improved.
