United Airlines is blaming technology issues and Federal Aviation Administration staffing shortages for cancellations of 35 flights per day at Newark's airport.

United Flight 1321 departed the airport around noon Monday bound for Los Angeles, California, according to flight data. A mechanical issue was detected around 12:45 p.m., prompting a return to Newark, according to an airline spokesperson. The Boeing 777 was transporting 362 travelers and 10 crew members.
