Whatever triggered the Rebellion, early on the morning of the 9th, a Sunday, about twenty slaves gathered near the Stono River in St. Paul's Parish, less than twenty miles from Charlestown.

Filmmaker Jeff Phillips said the project got underway after he began biking more to Stono River Park during the pandemic. He'd see sailboats near a sandbar in the river known as the Redneck Riviera.

The Bull 3 fishing boat, pictured here on Oct. 13, 2021, now sits beneath the waters on the Stono River. Phillips said the boat remains there to this day.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The John F. Limehouse Memorial Bridge that crosses over the Stono River and is part of U.S. Highway 17 could soon be getting a makeover with a bike and pedestrian crossing.
