SpongeBob SquarePants is headed to Broadway. A new nautical-set musical based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series will debut on Broadway in the 2016-17 season.

Produced by Nickelodeon with the Araca Group, Sony Music Masterworks and Kelp on the Road, “SpongeBob SquarePants” begins previews Nov. 6 ahead of a Dec. 4 opening.

“The SpongeBob Musical” begins previews at Chicago’s Oriental Theater June 7, 2016, for a limited engagement that runs July 3. Casting, as well as Broadway dates and timeline, remain to be set.
