A recent report from a personal finance site has highlighted the costs that smokers can incur over their lifetime.

A new paper in Nicotine & Tobacco Research finds that smoking has a negative effect on earnings among younger workers. This is particularly true among the less well educated.

"We don't realize how much far beyond that cost of a pack we're putting into (smoking)," says Jennifer Folkenroth, national senior director for tobacco control at the American Lung Association.
