The years-long journey of relocating the Sacramento Zoo to Elk Grove has come to an abrupt halt after the Sacramento Zoological Society announced Wednesday that the move is no longer happening. A news release stated that the relocation would no longer be "financially or operationally sustainable.

The Sacramento Zoo Society announced on Wednesday that the new proposed zoo in Elk Grove will not be moving forward.The zoo's interim CEO, Robert Churchill, cited that the size of the Elk Grove location would be "dramatically reduced" and some features would have to be eliminated in order to stay within the budget.
