The Rapid City Fire Department has been the city’s lone ambulance-service provider, public or private, since 2003, when the last private ambulance company left town after struggling to break even.

The Rapid City Fire Department celebrated the addition of 10 recruits to the department on Friday morning with a run through downtown Rapid City and the burning of their fire academy recruit t-shirts.
