Two photographs from a June 2022 massacre at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Nigeria have been misleadingly shared online as “new photos” from a Christmas 2023 attack in the country.

The website for the church said it has one of the largest and oldest black congregations in the south. It has its roots in the early 19th century, and the current building was built in 1891.

The photos are being put on show at St Hilda’s to tie in with this year’s Heritage Open Days festival, a nationwide celebration of history and culture running from September 6 to 9 and 13 to 16.
