The Padres scored more runs than they had been. Randy Vásquez was better than he was six days earlier. Fernando Tatis Jr. provided a reminder that it is perilous to test his arm. That is pretty much what we’re reduced to leaning on by way of positive developments.

The Tampa Bay Rays were looking to add to their 3-2 lead over the San Diego Padres with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning, but Fernando Tatis Jr. had other ideas. Yandy Diaz hit a fly ball to right field with one out and runners on the corners.

The 4-2 win completed a sweep of the Padres; extended the Rays’ winning streak to five, their longest in nearly a year; and got them back to .500 for the first time since mid-April. Zack Littell, after deserving better in several outings on the way to an 0-5 start, earned his first win, allowing the two runs over five innings.
