New Maine state flag design unveiled. Voters will decide in November whether to adopt the new design, which features a realistic pine tree rather than a popular stylized version.

In the new version created by Adam Lemire of Gardiner, the tree is an Eastern White Pine, which is Maine’s state tree, and has 16 branches to represent the 16 counties in Maine.

Lemire said he was “honored and excited” to have his design chosen as the model for the potential new state flag, which features Maine’s state tree, the Eastern White Pine.
