Major League Soccer has decided to hold off on abandoning its existing schedule to follow in the footsteps of the European fall-to-spring model ahead of the World Cup

Any new MLS schedule is likely to include a sizable winter break, similar to the six weeks the German Bundesliga takes off in the middle of its season. There's also the potential for Leagues Cup games to be played during that break in warm-weather MLS markets.

After months of speculation, Major League Soccer's Board of Governors announced Thursday that the league would not abandon its summer schedule to align itself with international soccer's August-May season.
