Although both kinnow and orange offer similar health benefits, most people prefer orange because it has less seeds, comparatively thinner outer peel and taste sweeter.

Oranges are medium to large-sized fruits with a bright orange-colored peel, Mausambi is smaller with a greenish-yellow peel, and Kinnow oranges are similar in appearance to regular oranges.

“The product, a bioengineered nutraceutical derived from kinnow peels, is poultry feed supplement. It will replace the use of antibiotics in poultry feed,” said university officials.

Though smaller in average size and harder to peel, mandarins from competitors are claiming a larger market share because of being seedless. In the ethnic segment, Kinnow supplies are intermittent.
