Severe thunderstorms packing damaging winds and large hail are expected to hit the Houston area late tonight into early Thursday morning, forecasters warn.

Severe weather season is in full swing this week as West Texas thunderstorms erupt with the prospect of tennis ball-size hail. Houston will be safe from hail-producing storms Tuesday and Wednesday, but could the same frontal boundary responsible for those severe storms in West Texas eventually reach Southeast Texas?
