John “Jack” Butler will succeed BC President William Leahy who stood in the role for 28 years and will step down in the summer of 2026.

The Rev. John “Jack” Butler currently serves as the university's vice president for mission and ministry. He'll succeed the Rev. William Leahy, who has served as president for nearly three decades.

Boston College made the announcement that the Board of Trustees has selected Father John “Jack” Butler as the University’s 26th president, after current University President Willliam Leahy steps down in the summer of 2026.
