The release of the maps begins a 120-day clock for local government jurisdictions to adopt local ordinances incorporating the State Fire Marshal’s recommendations, according to the executive order.

Even Gov. Gavin Newsom wants more housing in some fire hazard zones. Last week Newsom announced that 23 state-owned vacant plots would be offered to developers for affordable housing.

Cal Fire added more than 360,000 acres in coastal Northern California to its fire hazard zones where heightened fire safety regulations will apply. New Southern California maps come out March 24.
