The insistence that Manning must be enshrined alongside the likes of Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino and his brother, Peyton, is what invites the holes that get poked in Manning’s resume, leading with his 117-117 (.500) career regular season record.

While one brother has a mountain of statistics, the other has throws that live in NFL history and decided Super Bowls.

Normally each year we get five inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, so when Rich Eisen listed four players and then there felt like a pregnant pause during the NFL Honors show on Thursday night,

Jared Allen, Sterling Sharpe, Eric Allen and Antonio Gates did make the cut and will be enshrined in Canton in August.

To be clear, he does not want this. If Manning is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, he’ll receive that honor in his home city in front of his friends and family. It would be another perfect moment for an athlete who, during his career, made a few of those happen.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning’s Hall of Fame snub caused an uproar from Big Blue fans. In his first year of eligibility, the franchise legend did not make it to the final ten of voting, which could make it harder to get into Canton next year.

To many New York Giants fans, retired quarterback Eli Manning should have been a slam-dunk first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, as is now known, not enough of the 40+ Hall of Fame voting committee members saw it that way.
