CORINTH – Deteriorating economic conditions have forced International Paper Co.’s Hudson River Mill to shut down one of its two paper machines for the second time this winter.
The company also will close a packaging facility and a timber and lumber mill, resulting in about 1,100 job cuts.
The Hudson River Mill celebrated its 100th year as an International Paper mill in 1998. In the early 20th century, it was the largest paper mill operated by IP and was the company’s headquarters.
Philmet Capital Group, a limited liability company in New York City, had been planning the plastic container plant inside an old paper mill building at the site for more than three years.
