When the 777 introduced a new interior architecture 20 years ago, Boeing reapplied the same concept in the 767. Airbus adopted a similar approach with the A350 and the A330.

Boeing has started certification flight testing of its long-delayed 777-9 with U.S. aviation regulators onboard, the U.S. planemaker said in an emailed statement.

At Boeing's Renton, Washington final assembly plant, the P-8A fuselage is mated with stronger 737-900 wings and other modified airframe systems. Mission systems are installed in Seattle.

The 777 flies seven of the routes and the Airbus A380 flies two. Two newer aircraft, the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A 350, both fly the 10 th route between San Francisco and Singapore.
