Aura Garcia, 43, was crossing the Meridian Street Bridge in East Boston around noon, when the operator raised a bridge for a boat — trapping her between two plates, The Boston Globe reports.

Family friend David Agosto said Garcia had two children, ages 3 and 15. "It hurts a lot because she was very close to us and it's not easy you know," Agosto said.
