The new naming strategy with odd numbers used on ICE-powered cars and even numbers for EVs, caused confusion, so Audi is dropping it

This new naming system will debut with the new combustion engine version Audi A6, which will be revealed on March 4th. You can expect Audi A6 models to have names like A6 Avant TFSI or A6 Sedan E-tron. (Current models will not be renamed.)

Audi has taken a u-turn on its new model naming strategy that was introduced in 2023 that differentiated its combustion engine line-up from the electric ones. This decision has been a result of customer feedback that the new system was causing confusion among buyers.

Audi is undoing some of the changes it planned to make to its naming strategy in regard to all-electric vehicles. Rather than having separate model designations for gas and electric cars, it will revert back to simply having the latter use the e-tron suffix to avoid having to rename a significant portion of its existing lineup.
