The Tampa Bay Rays snapped a 7-game road losing streak Monday, getting great pitching, timely hitting and solid defense in a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees.

NEW YORK — For a seven-game stretch this past week, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe was gaining steam at the plate. Volpe hit two home runs in a game in Atlanta, the beginning of a stretch where he was batting .292 with a 1.099 OPS and four homers in 26 plate appearances.

Max Fried is in the midst of his worst stretch in an otherwise solid first season of an eight-year contract with the New York Yankees. On Tuesday night, the Yankees hope to see the version of Fried they saw for most of the first three months when they continue a four-game series against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.

While GM Brian Cashman mostly is pursuing pitching help following an active weekend upgrading the lineup, NBA superstar Luka Doncic was in attendance Monday night to see the Yankees’ bats mostly silenced in a 4-2 loss to the Rays at the Stadium.

Once again though, those walks pile up. The one to Jonathan Aranda was the catalyst for the first inning home run, and three more over the course of the game inflated Schlittler’s pitch count. A walk to Yandy Díaz precipitated an RBI single that untied the game and ended Cam’s night just one out into the fifth.

The struggling Tampa Bay Rays open a four-game series with the New York Yankees on Monday night, and Aaron Judge won't be in the lineup this week. He's on the injured list with a flexor strain in his right arm,

Ryan McMahon is making his third consecutive start at third base, and embattled shortstop Anthony Volpe remains in the starting lineup. In fairness, Rosario only started one game at shortstop for the Nationals; most of his action came at second and third base.
