Iona announced Monday that it is firing men's basketball coach Tobin Anderson after just two seasons, leaving Anderson's inner-circle stunned. The former FDU coach, who famously orchestrated a historic upset of No. 1 seed Purdue in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, posted a 33-33 mark with Iona as Rick Pitino's successor.

The Gaels just lost the MAAC championship game to Mount Saint Mary's on Saturday, bringing their 2024-25 season to an end. It was big for Iona to even be in the conference title game after Anderson took over the team from Rick Pitino in 2023 and essentially started from scratch.

Iona has fired Tobin Anderson, just two years after he replaced Rick Pitino as the school’s coach. The Gaels made the announcement two days after losing in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game and missing out on an NCAA Tournament bid.
