The Seoul Central District Court on Friday night dismissed the prosecution's request to extend impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol's detention beyond its initial period.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol attended on Tuesday a Constitutional Court hearing of his impeachment trial where he denied ordering military commanders to drag lawmakers out of parliament during his short-lived bid to impose martial law.

The rallies were held on the same day as Yoon arrived at a Seoul court for a hearing to oppose a formal arrest over last month’s imposition of martial law.
