WASHINGTON — Emma Raducanu reached the semifinals at the D.C. Open — the biggest tournament where she's made it that far since her surprising 2021 U.S. Open title — by eliminating Maria Sakkari 6-4, 7-5 on Friday.

Emma Raducanu booked her place in the semi-final of the Washington Open for the first time with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Greece’s Maria Sakkari. The victory, on a day where both players had to battle high temperatures, means Raducanu will overtake Katie Boulter as British No 1 on Monday.

Emma Raducanu and Elena Rybakina handled the business in singles but had to retire from their Washington doubles semifinal. On Friday, the British tennis player defeated Maria Sakkari 6-4 7-5 to reach the Citi Open semifinal. Meanwhile, the Kazakh ousted Magdalena Frech 6-3 6-3.
