The S&P 500 ( ^GSPC) was little changed, coming off a three-day win streak that saw the benchmark index close Wednesday on the cusp of setting a new all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ( ^DJI) traded 0.2% higher, with a record not far off.

Trump stepped onto the global stage for the first time during his second administration. Answering questions from a select panel at the Davos Economic Forum, President Trump gave comfort to market participants by promising to "demand" that interest rates come down "immediately.

A handful of stocks broke out of bases in the stock market today. The Dow Jones index added 0.3% and held above the 44,000 level, after closing above it Tuesday. The blue-chip index is above its 50-day moving average.
