Mongolia has been thrown into fresh political crisis with the country’s prime minister announcing his resignation following weeks of protests sparked by his family’s lavish displays of wealth.

Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrain became Mongolia’s Prime Minister in 2021, after gaining prominence by helping to organize mass protests against corruption. Now, after protesters have taken to the streets accusing him of corruption, which he has denied, he’s resigned.

Mongolia ‘s prime minister resigned early Tuesday after he failed to receive enough support in a vote of confidence in parliament, Mongolian media reported. The country’s embassy in Washington confirmed it.
