The top wind gust reported so far was a whopping 79 mph from a bowing line of storms that roared through overnight.
More storms are possible tonight, but conditions are expected to be dry and muggy during the afternoon hours. Dew points will be near 70, meaning any storms that may develop will have lots of energy for torrential downpours. This means ponding and urban flooding are also possible.
While we have had a break in the action across the area this afternoon, shower and thunderstorm chances re-enter the forecast later this evening and into tonight, with the potential for excessive rainfall.
Two rounds of severe storms dropped a deluge of rain on Minnesota on Friday night and Saturday morning. A system swept through the state Friday afternoon, dropping several inches of rain and bringing strong gusts of wind that contributed to around 15,000 households in the Twin Cities area losing power.
