Sunday was a special day across MLB — and for the Kansas City Royals. MLB’s Lou Gehrig Day is being held June 1-2 around the league. The Royals wore a special “No. 4” patch on their uniforms to honor Lou Gehrig’s legacy on Sunday against the Tigers. They marked the day in other ways, too.

In the midst of his breakout season at the plate, third baseman Maikel Garcia was held out of the Kansas City Royals' series finale against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic spoke to a rival talent evaluator who first saw Caglianone’s eye-popping talent at the amateur level. The evaluator came away getting a “peak Matt Olson vibe” from Caglianone, with a belief that he could eventually lead MLB in home runs during his career-best seasons.

The Tigers (38-21) and Kansas City Royals (31-28) wrap up their three-game series at 2:10 p.m. Eastern time at Kauffman Stadium. In addition to Dingler; infielder Trey Sweeney; and outfielders Wenceel Perez and Kerry Carpenter will be available off the bench. The full lineup is below.

The Royals finished 2-4 during their six-game homestand. The Tigers (39-21) now hold an eight-game lead over the Royals in the AL Central. The Royals are fourth in the division. The Twins (third) entered the day 31-26, while the Guardians (second) improved to 32-26 following their game Sunday.

The Tigers managed one lonely run in the final two games against the Royals. But it was good enough to secure another series win.
