The Trump administration on Friday designated a coalition of powerful Haitian gangs and an allied force sowing terror in Haiti’s bread basket as terrorists.

The U.S. has officially designated a powerful gang coalition in Haiti as a foreign terrorist organization, raising concerns the move could deepen the country’s humanitarian crisis.

The move will enable harsh sanctions on the gangs, which control important sectors of the country’s economy, and anybody who does business with them.
