At least 43 people died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to "catastrophic" flooding, according to officials. Children are among the dead, said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has taken on the duties of acting governor.

Hundreds of residents, campers and visitors were plucked to safety after the Guadalupe River rapidly swelled in Texas Hill Country with little warning.

Kerr County officials confirmed 75 bodies have been recovered as of 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. The 75 people killed include 48 adults and 27 children, of which 15 adults and nine children are pending identification.
