U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he has not spoken to El Salvador's president about returning a man mistakenly deported from Maryland, and the top U.S. diplomat refused to comment on reported contacts with El Salvadoran authorities.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday acknowledged that he could secure the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongly deported to El Salvador last month but refuses to do so.

The deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia has turned into a flash point in the immigration debate for the United States. The U.S. government deported the father to El Salvador. He spent weeks at the notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) megaprison.
