Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, who created the parody franchise that launched with the first movie in 2000, wrote the script for the new film.

The original Scary Movie opened in July 2000 and immediately reset expectations for parody at the box office. Starring Faris as Cindy and Regina Hall as Brenda, the film debuted to $42 million domestically-setting records at the time for the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated horror film and a Black director.

Actors Anna Faris and Regina Hall are set to reprise their roles as Cindy and Brenda in the upcoming Scary Movie 6. Returning after an 18-year hiatus for scriptwriting, the Wayans brothers will produce the film,

Hall and Faris made a statement about returning for Scary Movie 6, saying “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
