Home-crowd favorite Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Madrid Open because of muscle injuries. The third-ranked Spaniard says he doesn't want to risk making things worse ahead of the French Open.

As was expected, the two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the home Madrid Masters. Carlos injured his right adductor during Sunday's Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune, requiring a medical timeout and falling in straight sets.

Carlos Alcaraz will not be part of the Madrid Open tennis tournament because of existing muscle injuries. The world no 3 said that he didn’t want to risk making things worse before the French Open and that he has still in a race to recover from the upper leg ailment which had hampered his movement during the Barcelona Open final last Sunday.
