The 157th running of the Belmont Stakes belongs to Sovereignty! Sunday's final leg of the Triple Crown pitted Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty against Preakness Stakes champion Journalism in a 1 1/4 mile rematch of their early May showdown at Churchill Downs.

Sovereignty won the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes, capping off a dominant year for the three-year-old horse, who won the Kentucky Derby earlier this year.

Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby winner, prevailed in the Belmont Stakes with a thrilling finish over runner-up Journalism, the Preakness Stakes winner, to claim two of the three Triple Crown events at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
