A favorite with families, this year-round Aspen resort means biking and hiking in the summer, and downhill and cross-country skiing in the winter.

The quaint village of snowmass is no more. The skiing is fantastic when you get enough snow but the town has turned into a jumble of giant hotels and condos that really don't fit. Full review by Bando1234

Hello, I would like to know how Aspen/Snowmass compares to Whistler. We have skied Whistler twice and love the variety of runs and the gorgeous village to stroll through at night. We are looking for ski resort in Colorado for our next family ski trip. Any recommendations appreciated :)

Have been to both and there are similarities that you would like at Snowmass for a family. It is a large spread mtn with tons of intermediate runs that have restaurant decks at almost each lift area. The majority of Snowmass lodging is pretty much ski in/out to some degree and very skier friendly. There are also advanced/expert areas open if the snowpack is good...(which this year it hasn't been). Getting to the other three mtns if lodging in Snowmass is kinda a hassle even though they are all nearby and 10-15 minutes from the airport...i.e. Aspen Highlands bus does not leave until 9 am, and most that are hiking to the bowl are already on the mtn. Nightlife in Aspen is more like Whistler, so going over for dinner is a good option. There is something for everybody at Snowmass including park/pipe and great beginner instruction classes. Lodging at the Viceroy is the closest to Chateau Whistler if that helps. Vail would be my other comparison to Whistler, and probably a closer match of what you are looking for in a more Euro style, esp the village :)
