My visit here this time was specifically for hiking the Bean and Bear loop, a nearly 7 mile round trip. We arrived on a day that was really overcast and foggy, but this was the day we had set aside …Full review by Erica F

It was a beautiful day to be at the lighthouse. We took the 1 hour gruided tour and had Robert as our guide. He was very interesting and answered all our questions and we could talk about the const…Full review by Susan I

If we went in early September will it be too cold to be in the water or sleep in a tent?

The two people that wrote before me said it all. If you're looking for a GREAT place to stay for a few days while you're up there, Gooseberry Lodge and motel is EXCELLENT!!! Also, we have found that the Rustic Inn, right across highway 61 from the cabins/motel, has better pies than Betty's Pies. It 's a good place to eat too.
We are planning to visit Split Rock Lighthouse, but also wondering where a good place would be to view it from Hwy. 61.

I disagree with both answers. First, there is a pull out just south of the light house. And my wife and I felt it was good enough and did not pay the $10/person I was going to post a google street view but it will not let me. If you look at the map you will see the pull out and you can see the light house very well
I know they charge admission to tour the lighthouse, but can you go here and hike trails and see the outside of the lighthouse without the fee? Is it worth going if you don't want to pay for a whole family to get in the lighthouse?
A:
You would need a State Park permit to go hiking in the park. Daily permits are $5 per vehicle.
