About 3 miles south of Brunelle's Marina--where the Lady Bea launches, there's a dam across the river between South Hadley Falls and Holyoke (just above the Route 116 bridge) that produces electricity for Holyoke G+E. The area below the dam is pretty rocky when the water is low. Remnants of an historic inclined plane system around the Falls on the South Hadley side show one of the first efforts to create a navigable route for moving goods along the river, an effort that was eventually abandoned with the debut of rail.
