Once we walked through the gates, it just felt so nice. It was huge when walking on foot and everything is so premium. Really nice place to explore and have lunch.Full review by kellyo1966

Lovely wide paved walkway, bordered by chestnut trees for shade. Gives a good view of the town and the fortifications. You can walk the entire perimeter or just partway.Full review by dorothym683

Great views and lovely autumnal trees, really nice to walk around. I walked around once in each direction which took a couple of hours, plenty of benches and places to stop and sit but no public toil…Full review by Esk i

You have 3 options. 1. By train which is the easiest way, about 25 minutes away. 2. By bus, a little longer and not as comfortable but the cheapest way or 3. The way I recommend, a little more expensive but just so convenient call a company called Luccalimo, driver picks you up wherever you want and drops you off at your request. We used the company twice and were very pleased.

I actually didn't rent a bike but walked Lucca including the walls (le mura). However bikes are the best way to get around in Lucca. The Tourist Center Lucca (a private tourist office) and Biciclette Poli in Piazza S.Maria are the first that come to mind. The Tourist Center (just outside the railway station) have prices for adults: €12.00 for a day or €8.00 for 3 hours. Biciclette Poli have different prices for type of bike. Prices start from: €3.00 per hour. For 5 hours to whole day €15.00. Next door to Poli is Cicli Bizzarri. You can try them as well but I have no idea of what they charge. I know they have a list at the front of their shop though. There are several other bike rental shops within the old town of Lucca (within the walls). I would suggest to visit the Tourist Info Office at Porta San Donato next to Piazzale Verdi in person or go online to "turismo (fullstop) lucca (fullstop) it" for more info on Lucca. They have a good list of places where to rent bikes in Lucca. Enjoy.
