Via the Mohican, Walhonding, Muskingum and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 219 square miles. According to the Geographic Names Information System, it has also been known historically as "Clear Creek" and as "Clear Fork Mohecan Creek".
