Dogs are allowed at Chateau de Castelnaud on a leash -- since parts of this castle are essentially a museum, I would hope it would be a short leash--however, there are outside areas.
How difficult is the attraction for someone with limited mobility? My traveling companion uses a cane or a walker and has difficulty with stairs, especially those without railings that are uneven. Will she be able to enjoy a visit?

I'm guessing your companion cannot do that. The limited mobility itinerary gives more of an outside view. Unfortunately I don't think it is cheaper. It is also a question of endurance. If she walks slowly but can persist for 300 yards one way she could do it. It does go up and down. My father is 78 and is easily short of breath decided not to do it. My mom, same age, did it but we guided her in the dark stairs.

It looks like the demonstrations are commensurate with attendance, and at this period of the year, it's fairly quiet. (All the kids go back to school in september, in France.)
